Rev. Sinkford Named Among Most Influential Black Spiritual Leaders

UUA President William G. Sinkford was honored for the
second consecutive year by Beliefnet.com as one of the nation’s Most
Influential Black Spiritual Leaders. Rev. Sinkford shares the spotlight
with faith leaders from many spiritual traditions, including Iyanla
Vanzant, Archbishop Wilton Gregory, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, and Rev. Johnnie Colemon (full story here).
The editors described their selections with these words: “While by no
means comprehensive, the list represents some of today’s most
prominent–and controversial–spiritual figures, as well as those whose
lifelong efforts have earned them a place in history.”
Sinkford was singled out by the editors for his work in support of
marriage equality for same-sex couples and for his prophetic leadership

Upon learning of the award, Sinkford said, “It’s an honor to be
recognized within such a religiously diverse group. The richness and
variety of African American spiritual life is a joy to behold.”

paths. Beliefnet is a recipient of the Online Journalism Award for
General Excellence Online, the highest honor given by the Online News
Association.
