Screening of the “Who Killed Vincent Chin?” documentary –
This event is open to all GA participants!
Vincent Chin was a Chinese-American living in Detroit. He was assaulted by two unemployed auto workers, who thought he was Japanese and blamed him for the loss of their jobs. Beaten in the head with a baseball bat, he died five days later. His assailants got 3 years probation and a $3,000 fine. The injustice galvanized the Asian American community, and is considered the watershed event in pan-Asian solidarity in the US.
June 19, 2007 will be the 25th anniversary of his assault.June 19th will be the 25th anniversary of the Vincent Chin murder. We will show this Oscar-nominated movie to highlight this watershed event in Asian/Pacific Islander solidarity.
